Nearly a dozen families received help with their car seats thanks to a new event that recently rolled out at Southeastern Elementary.
On Nov. 14, the school held its first free car seat inspection and installation event, which was offered to all Southeastern families. Four dedicated car seat technicians were available to guide parents and caregivers in correctly installing their car seats and ensuring all safety standards were met. Eleven families participated in this event, and their children were excused from class to verify that they were the appropriate height and weight for the various sizes of car seats.
Participants gained valuable insights into car seat usage, received essential safety tips, and obtained advice tailored to their vehicle models. The event fostered a strong sense of community, with families reassured their children were safe while traveling. Overall, it was a fulfilling experience for everyone involved, emphasizing the critical importance of child safety on the road.
A big thank you goes out to Barry County Great Start Collaborative and the trained technicians for volunteering their time to help bring this event to families in the area. Organizers hope to hold a similar event again in the spring.
The Michigan Car Seat Law requires that all children under the age of 8 and less than 4 feet 9 inches tall ride in a car seat or booster.
