Teaching Tuesday 📚

Last week, our amazing 4th graders took the NAEP test - also known as The Nation’s Report Card! While standardized testing isn’t usually something we get overly excited about, this one was special. We were the only school in Hastings selected to participate, and with all of the positive changes and growth we’ve made, our students were ready! They absolutely crushed it!

We are so proud of our students and teachers for representing our school and community so well. Way to go, 4th grade!🙌🎉

We’re excited about the strong interest in our free preschool program, the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)!

The State of Michigan is currently developing a new online registration system for GSRP. As soon as the new system is in place, we will begin accepting registrations for preschool students at Hastings Area School System. We will share an announcement immediately once registration opens, along with step-by-step instructions on how to enroll.

Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm as you prepare to begin your child’s learning journey with us. We can’t wait to welcome our youngest learners to Hastings Area Schools for the 2026-27 year!

Please remember there will be no school on Friday, February 20, and Monday, February 23 for mid-winter break.

A truly special part of our school community is the wonderful volunteers who share their time and love of reading with our Young Kindergarten through 1st grade students.

Depending on the classroom and grade level, our volunteers may read to the whole class or work one-on-one with students. No matter the setting, the impact is powerful!

Reading with a caring adult helps build confidence, strengthens literacy skills, encourages imagination, and fosters a lifelong love of books. These moments matter more than we can say. We are incredibly thankful for the time, patience, and heart our volunteers pour into our students each week. You are helping shape strong readers and bright futures!

Wow! Everyone who organized and participated in last week’s WinterFest truly showed up in a big way. Not only did we have an incredible time, but together we raised an amazing $9,284.54 for the Lucas family to help Nolan get a diabetes service dog.

That’s huge and just another example of our school community supporting one another.

Thank you SO much to everyone who helped make this year’s WinterFest such a success!

🏅Teaching Tuesday🏅 Three times a year, we take a deep dive into our data to reflect, align, and grow. Our leadership team spent time preparing and sharing this information with staff at yesterday’s staff meeting - and this round had a fun Winter Olympics theme! We’re focused on clear goals in three key areas: reading, math, and behavior. It’s a powerful opportunity for our staff to get on the same page, stay focused, and continue growing together for our students.
