🍎 Teaching Tuesday: It Takes Everyone!
Please join us in welcoming Paula, our new lunch lady! Paula goes above and beyond—stepping into the library when needed, keeping things calm and organized, and making sure our students are well-fed with breakfast and lunch each day. We’re so thankful to have her on our team! 💛

Barry Intermediate School District is asking voters this November to consider a Regional Enhancement Millage. This proposal would generate local funds through property tax to directly support educational and career-readiness programs for all students and school districts within the ISD — including Hastings Area Schools.

Barry County United Way and Volunteer Center generously donated leftover school essentials from their backpack program to both Central and Southeastern Elementary Schools. We are so appreciative of this thoughtful gift, which helps ensure all our students have the supplies they need to stay equipped and ready to learn!

Today, our 3rd and 4th graders enjoyed a special performance of Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus at the Hastings Performing Arts Center. This wonderful opportunity was made possible through the generous support of the DeCamp Foundation, who provided the event free of charge. What a treat for our students!

Teaching Tuesday ✨🔌
Let there be light! 💡 Our students have been learning all about electricity. During an enrichment lesson, they even built their own working circuits—what a bright idea! ⚡ A big thank-you to Mrs. Severns for bringing us this fun idea!

As we await finalization of the state budget, we want to provide clarity for our families regarding school breakfast and lunch. Following recent action by our Board of Education, we are pleased to share that, regardless of state-level decisions, our district will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch for all students through December 2025.
Further information about meal program plans beyond that date will be communicated as it becomes available.
We value the importance of ensuring every student has access to these nutritious meals, and we are grateful for the opportunity to continue offering this support to our school community.

✨ Teaching Tuesday! ✨
We’re thrilled to spotlight a familiar face in a brand new role — Ms. Fleis, our new STEM teacher! 🧪🔬💡
Ms. Fleis is no stranger to SE as she previously taught 3rd grade, where her creativity and love for hands-on learning already made a big impact. "I love that my students get to be creative and try new things in STEM! I'm always amazed at the designs students come up with. Everyone is a scientist, computer coder, engineer, designer, and architect in STEM!" 🚀👩🏫
We’re so excited to see all the amazing things she’ll do in this new chapter!💙📚

📚 Teaching Tuesday 📚
This week we launched our Science of Reading-aligned instruction model - Walk to Intervention. 🙌
Our 3rd–5th graders are grouped depending on what they need whether it’s decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, or enrichment. It’s all about meeting students where they are and helping them grow as readers with intentional, data-driven instruction.
What makes this even more exciting? It’s an innovative model, one many schools have never used before, grounded in decades of reading science and research. 💡
