Teaching Tuesday! Mrs. Carlton, our English Learner Teacher for the district, recently hosted an event where bilingual saxon students celebrated a year full of learning with a springtime family dinner! Southeastern alum Jocelyn Hernandez-Hernandez shared wisdom from her time at the University of Michigan and answered questions about what it takes to be a multilingual college student. Each student took home a book and a card game to encourage their language growth! 📚

Join us this evening in the Hastings Middle School Commons for a community forum focused on our district’s facility and infrastructure needs. The session will be led by consultants from GMB, and we encourage all community members to attend and share their input.

Following the forum, the school board will convene for its regularly scheduled meeting.

Spring Break looked a little different for our tech department. Throughout the week, our tech department didn’t slow down. From closing out tickets and repairing devices to updating computers and refreshing inventory across the district, the team kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

And of course, they found a way to keep it fun. Rocking their shades and sipping on ice-cold Shirley Temples, the team brought a little Spring Break spirit to the workday. 😎

We have another group of VERY deserving students who were given the Young Citizenship Award by the Hastings Kiwanis Club for the month of March. Great job, everyone!

Monday at the monthly Hastings City Council meeting, two of our Southeastern Elementary Student Council members presented their idea of adding more birdhouses throughout our community.

A motion was made, and we are excited to see this project move forward. We love seeing our students — even some of our younger learners — make an impact on our community!

Southeastern Elementary fifth graders had an exciting day yesterday exploring future career possibilities!
Students visited Hastings Fiberglass, the Barry County Courthouse, and Corewell Health Pennock, getting a firsthand look at a variety of professions in action. It was an inspiring experience to help them start thinking about what they might want to be when they grow up!

Teaching Tuesday 💻 After the school day ends, the learning continues! Ms. Fleis hosts our Girls Who Code Club, where students dive into coding and STEM activities. The club empowers girls to explore technology, think creatively, and build skills that will prepare them for the future. We are grateful for teachers who create opportunities that spark curiosity and innovation!
