Ms. Fleis is no stranger to SE as she previously taught 3rd grade, where her creativity and love for hands-on learning already made a big impact. "I love that my students get to be creative and try new things in STEM! I'm always amazed at the designs students come up with. Everyone is a scientist, computer coder, engineer, designer, and architect in STEM!" 🚀👩‍🏫

We’re so excited to see all the amazing things she’ll do in this new chapter!💙📚

📚 Teaching Tuesday 📚

This week we launched our Science of Reading-aligned instruction model - Walk to Intervention. 🙌

Our 3rd–5th graders are grouped depending on what they need whether it’s decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, or enrichment. It’s all about meeting students where they are and helping them grow as readers with intentional, data-driven instruction.

What makes this even more exciting? It’s an innovative model, one many schools have never used before, grounded in decades of reading science and research. 💡

Welcome to campus, preschoolers! Just under 100 Great Start Readiness Program students celebrated their FIRST week of school this, and our amazing teachers were ready to greet them with a variety of fun, engaging, and educational activities. Here's to a wonderful year ahead!

📚✨Teaching Tuesday ✨📚 Each week, we're excited to give you a peek into the incredible learning happening in our classrooms! This week, we're so excited to welcome our newest little learners to the classroom! ✅ FREE preschool through the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) ✅ Play-based learning that helps children grow socially, emotionally, and academically ☀️Learning through play is powerful! 📣 We're proud to share that all of our doors are currently full but things can change quickly! If you're interested, don't hesitate to reach out!

Our young students are not only learning in the classroom, they’re also learning the rules of the road when they ride a Hastings school bus. Our amazing drivers have been visiting school buildings to give bus safety presentations, helping students understand how to travel safely while keeping the ride fun. Thanks to their efforts, our kids are better prepared to get to and from school with confidence. Thank you, bus drivers!

August Birthday Club hosted by our PTO! Students with a birthday in August were able to eat lunch at the birthday table, enjoy a small treat, and received a birthday bookmark! Our preschoolers return after the long holiday weekend, and we can’t wait to welcome them back! If you haven’t registered yet, there’s still time. Our FREE preschool program has no income restrictions. Everyone is welcome.

🐾 Teaching Tuesday! 🐾 Meet Karma, our beloved facility dog here at SE — and one of the most paws-itively impactful members of our team! 🐶💛 Every day, Karma helps create a calm and welcoming environment for our students. From comforting kids during tough moments to encouraging reading and social-emotional learning, she is more than just a furry friend — she's a true educator at heart! We’re grateful for the unique ways Karma supports learning and emotional growth. We appreciate Paws with a Cause and First Presbyterian Church for their partnership in making this happen!

We’re back! To kick off the school year, the high school student council shared encouraging messages across the district, filling sidewalks with positive chalk notes yesterday to welcome students on their first day.

Tomorrow is the first day of the 2025–26 school year! We’re excited to welcome our students back into our buildings and kick off another year of learning and growth.

The year will go by quickly — be sure to keep track of important dates with our school calendar. We’ll see you tomorrow!

School picture days are spread throughout the next couple of months. Make sure you have your student ready to say “Cheese!”
